Frequently Asked Questions

Under SANS 1475, all portable fire extinguishing equipment must be serviced annually by a competent person. Certain high-risk environments — fuel storage, industrial processing, hotels — may require more frequent inspections. We provide scheduled service contracts and issue compliant logbooks after every visit.
SAQCC (South African Qualifications and Certifications Committee) is the professional registration body for fire protection in southern Africa. SAQCC-registered technicians have demonstrated competency and are authorised to issue compliance certificates that are accepted by insurers and municipal authorities. Non-registered technicians cannot legally certify your equipment — any certificates they issue are invalid.
We do both. ONVERT Fire Solutions supplies SANS-certified equipment directly and installs it using our own qualified teams. You deal with one provider from procurement through to commissioning and ongoing maintenance — no third-party contractors, no coordination risk between supplier and installer.
Yes. We service and maintain any SANS-compliant fire protection equipment regardless of who installed it. We'll conduct an initial compliance inspection and issue a condition report before taking on a maintenance contract, so both parties know exactly what the starting point is.
Conventional systems group detectors into zones — when triggered, you know which zone activated but not the specific device. Addressable systems identify each detector individually, giving you exact location data on a panel map. For buildings larger than a single floor or with complex layouts, addressable systems are required by insurers and significantly reduce response time. We install both types and will specify the right system for your building.
Water destroys electronics. Sprinklers are appropriate for most occupancies, but in server rooms, data centres, and switching stations, a water discharge causes secondary damage that often exceeds the fire damage itself. Clean agent systems — FM200 or Pyroshield (Novec 1230) — flood the protected zone with gas that extinguishes fire without leaving residue or damaging hardware. Systems can be reset and the room returned to service after a discharge.
A formal risk assessment covers: identification of ignition sources and fuel loads, review of building occupancy and evacuation routes, assessment of existing detection and suppression equipment, classification of risk zones, and a written report with recommendations and cost estimates. The report is required by OHS Act compliance and by most commercial insurers for high-occupancy or high-value buildings. We offer free initial site visits.
Our primary base is Outapi, but we deploy across Namibia and into the broader SADC region for larger projects and government contracts. Contact us with your location and project scope for scheduling and availability.
Compliance certificates are tied to the most recent service date and are valid until the next annual service is due. Insurers typically require current documentation — certificates older than 12 months are considered lapsed and may affect your cover. We send renewal reminders as part of our service contracts.
